Born and raised in Baltimore's inner city, Benay (Susan Benay Berger) attended Baltimore inner city public schools including the Baltimore High School for the Arts where she studied music: voice (alto) and clarinet. A music lover, Benay sings in gospel groups, has sung back up for, and recorded with, an American blues group in Munich Germany and done a good deal of musical theater. After completing a BS in political Science and Education from University of Maryland College Park, Benay worked as a professional Puppeteer for 3.5 years with the Internationally renowned Puppet Company Kids on the Block. She then moved to Germany to live abroad and learn another language and is now fluent in German. In Munich, where she lived for 3 years, she worked as an actress (in German and English) in TV, film, theater & television production. Benay resides in New York but spends a good deal of time in Baltimore and Los Angeles.
