D.G. Maloney - Biography

Daniel Graeme Maloney was born to a Motor Mechanic and Legal Secretary in Canberra, Australia, on the 19th of December, 1981. Educated by the strict Catholic Order of the Marist Brothers from the age of nine, he delighted in the escape that the theatre provided and soon began writing and performing theatrical vignettes based on his most disliked authoritarian teachers much to the entertainment of his bewildered classmates.

Despite the Tory environment, Maloney's unbridled talent and sharp intellect was nurtured by the few subversive elements within the school and after graduation, soon found himself studying at the Victorian College of the Arts under the tutelage of renowned Director and International Performance Consultant, Lindy Davies. It was there he honed his skill as an actor, immersing himself in the world of self-devised theatre, the classic works of Chekhov and Shakepseare and the practice of authentic impulse-based performance.

After graduating from the VCA with a Bachelor of Dramatic Art, Maloney embarked on a successful career as a Theatre-Maker composing songs and sketches for numerous comedic musical revues under the guise of his self-devised characters Buster Daniels and Donny Gash (billed as the long-lost illegitimate son of Johnny Cash). In 2006/07 he toured his manic troupe of characters around Australia and was awarded a special Green Room Award as Best Emerging Cabaret Artiste for the same year.

He then relocated to Sydney, Australia, where he was cast in the film adaptation of the Australian Opera, The Eternity Man (2008) directed by Julien Temple. Soon after, he landed his breakthrough role as the mysterious 'Stranger' opposite Nicolas Cage and Rose Byrne in Alex Proyas Prédictions (2009).
