Dan Dotson - Biography

Dan Dotson is the featured auctioneer on the hit reality show Storage Wars on A&E. He is the owner of American Auctioneers which is a cutting edge auctioneering company that is dedicated to serving and marketing their clients and he is also the owner of StorageAuctions.net.

Dotson has been around the auctioneering business since 1974. His grandfather, Sam Fancher, was a cattle and farm auctioneer in the Ozark Mountains of northwest Arkansas. At the age of 11, Dotson was taught to auctioneer by his grandfather, and he worked with him for the next four summers when he was not in school. At the age of 16, Dotson would skip school and travel to the Chino auction in California, where he sold furniture.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Dotson ran an auction house in Riverside that specialized in collectibles, pottery, porcelain, dolls, and furniture. Dotson started American Auctioneers in 1983 which was the first of several businesses he would launch. In 1996 Dotson met Laura, who later became his wife and his business partner. Laura is the co-owner and manager of American Auctioneers which currently specializes in auctions of storage units, estates, business inventories, and equipment, plus legal/foreclosure auctions, fundraisers, and appraisals. Dotson averages two auctions a day, six days a week.

In December 2010, both Dotson's began appearing on A&E's Storage Wars, a reality series which follows professional buyers and their teams as they bid on storage units that are in default. Ordinarily, Dan acts as the auctioneer and Laura as the ring-woman, but these roles are occasionally reversed. Dotson is also co-creator of and chief adviser to Storag Auctions, an internet portal focusing on providing self-storage auction listings throughout the United States.

Currently American Auctioneers handles three thousand auctions and appraisals per year, making Dan and Laura America's #1 Auction Team!
