Dany Garcia is the Founder and President of The Garcia Companies, a Media Management Company.
Ms. Garcia has worked in media in various capacities for the last 16 years, including areas such as sports entertainment, television and feature films. Ms. Garcia has a variety of media projects and credits, including executive producer for such projects as "Theater of War", starring Meryl Streep and Kevin Kline, "Lovely, Still", starring Martin Landau and Ellen Burstyn, "Racing Dreams", with Academy Award nominee Marshall Curry, & "Which Way Home", a 2010 Oscar Nominee for Best Feature Documentary. Ms. Garcia is also a producer on just released action drama, "Snitch" as well as an executive producer for the action adventure reality show entitled "The Hero" airing summer of 2013 on TNT. Additionally, Ms. Garcia manages, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson & the Team Rock Enterprises.
Ms. Garcia transitioned to media from the financial industry. She was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of JDM Partners LLC, a Miami-based investment advisory firm that specialized in providing superior investment counsel to high net worth individuals, families and corporations. The firm founded in 2002 by Ms. Garcia, provided traditional investment advisory services as well as alternative investment opportunities. Ms. Garcia held positions as a Vice-President and Senior Financial Consultant with Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner & Smith for 10 years prior to opening her own Boutique Wealth Management Firm. Ms Garcia is an active Angel Investor, who provides her own funds as capital for various local entrepreneurs and business start-ups through direct investment.
A dedicated philanthropist, Ms. Garcia is also Founder and President of The Beacon Experience, A Foundation for Success. The foundation's mission is to assist in developing outstanding individuals and to provide opportunities for at-risk children to create and achieve their dreams. To this end, the organization is designed to provide both educational and social tutoring to a designated inner-city class throughout their primary and secondary schooling. Upon their acceptance into college, the foundation will provide full scholarships for each one of its participants.
In addition, Ms. Garcia is Co-founder and Vice president of The Dwayne Johnson Rock Foundation. The Rock Foundation's mission is to educate, empower and motivate children worldwide through health education and physical fitness.
Ms. Garcia has been recognized for her philanthropic work by The American Cancer Society, The Wayu Tayaa Foundation, Dress for Success, The Project to Cure Paralysis, The Vizcayans and Levinson's Jewelers. Ms. Garcia has also been an award recipient by the Women's Congress of Miami, Hispanic Magazine, and by the Cuban Federation of UM Students. She served as a Panelist for the 25th Miami International Film Festival and was a special financial correspondent for NBC Miami.
Ms. Garcia serves as a member of the University Of Miami Board Of Trustees and is President of the University of Miami Alumni Association. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors for Mednax, Inc., a NYSE listed company that is a leading provider of physician services across the country. In the past she was also a member of the National Board for the "I Have a Dream" Foundation & The Dress for Success Foundation. In addition, Ms. Garcia served on the National Advisory Board for the Make-A-Wish Foundation as well as an advisory Board Member for the Nova Southeastern University's Mailman Segal Institute for Early Childhood Studies. Ms. Garcia was the Honorary Chairperson for the Mercy Hospital Emergency Department campaign. She served on the FIU Foundation Board of Directors and as Vice Chair for the Investment Special Committee. Ms. Garcia made a generous donation to the college to help start the Student Managed Investment Fund and to fund the group's advisor and its Capital Markets Lab. She was granted "Honorary Alumni" status by Florida International University (FIU) Alumni Association, for recognition of her significant contributions to the University. Ms. Garcia earned a Bachelors Degree in International Marketing and Finance from the University of Miami School of Business. Ms. Garcia is a devoted mother to her daughter Simone Alexandra.
