Declan Reynolds - Biography

With his appearance in veteran British director Nicolas Roeg's Puffball (2007) opposite Kelly Reilly and Donald Sutherland, Irish actor Declan Reynolds has been brought to the attention of art-house and indie cinema audiences worldwide. But the versatile actor has been steadily working on stage and screen since his early twenties. He was cast as Stanley Townsend's son in BBC's six part horse-drama Rough Diamond (2009) opposite Conor Mullen and Lorraine Pilkington; RTE's Saving The Titanic (2012) opposite Ciaran McMenamin, RTE's Fair City and the cult hit crime drama Love/Hate opposite Tom Vaughan Lawlor. Declan also played the lead role of Michael Manning - the last man ever hung for a crime in Ireland in 1954 - for Rosie Nic Cionnaith's "Ceart Agus Coir" (Crime & Punishment) for TG4.

Declan was born on June 17, 1980 in Monaghan, Ireland. His education in drama started with Monaghan Youth Theatre and in local Christmas Pantomimes before attending Queen's University Belfast to complete a Psychology degree. Declan then completed his Masters in Film Studies at University College, Dublin (UCD) before spending two years studying drama at the National Performing Arts School (NPAS) of Ireland, ran by Jill Doyle and Eamon Farrell (brother of Colin Farrell).

Returning to acting full-time in 2003, Declan starred in two independent feature films in the UK - 'The Buck Rules' and 'The Nightclub Days' - before returning to Dublin for the role of Adam Avarice in Purgatory-based "Seven Deadly Teens" by Orla Dunne for the Dublin Fringe Festival 2004 which played to a four sided auditorium.

Declan appeared in many TV Commercials and infomercials both in Ireland for Carlsberg, Meteor, Sony Playstation 2, Invest in Northern Ireland, 11850 Directory Enquires, Lidl (Northern Ireland), the Irish Independent newspaper, the Road Safety Authority, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and the Irish League of Credit Unions (ICLU).

In November 2012, Declan played a period detective in the debut music video for "Broken Women Blues" by Irish singer/songwriter Clara Rose Monahan, directed by Mark Watson.

Declan also had leading roles in two comedy web-series 'Trouble Times Three' and 'Free House' - both series directed by Eoin Cleland and produced by John McKeown and Jessica Duggan for Sixsem Productions / RTÉ Storyland 2011 and 2012.

In 2014-2015, Declan finished principal photography with his leading role Bailey Farrell in Irish-American comedy "The Gaelic Curse", directed by Jack Conroy, who was cinematographer on Jim Sheridan's "My Left Foot" (1989) and "The Field" (1990) and produced by Edwina Forkin at Zanzibar Films. It is a satirical Irish-American romantic comedy, centered around Declan's physically deformed character Bailey, who is reunited with his reluctant parents back in Ireland. Once there, he's confronted by his family's legacy/demons, the "monkey" on his back - and the prospects of finding love for the very first time - all with help of his Irish sidekick and best friend, Limp played by Brian Walsh (Titanic). A heartwarming story of love, loyalty, friendships and ultimately, forgiveness and new beginnings. This film is due for release in early 2016.

Outside of performing, Reynolds is studying English Literature and History in Dublin City University (DCU) on a part time basis.
