Emily Tyra - Biography

Born and raised in Minnesota; snow activities, beer, seven-layer bars, and Target are among Emily's favorite things. After several years in circus and stunt school, she became a professional mascot. She has a 16 pound rescue cat named Teddy and a mini turtle named Rocket.

Fresh from a few years as a professional ballet dancer with the Boston Ballet and James Sewell Ballet companies, Emily dove into a fast and furious Broadway career starting with her debut in Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway. Shortly after, Emily appeared in the brief Off-Broadway run of The City Club at The Minetta Lane Theater, then moved on to the new musical, Chaplin, at the Barrymore Theater as Lita Grey. Emily then joined the cast of Nice Work If You Can Get It, starring Matthew Broderick, where she also performed the role of Eileen Evergreen and understudied Judy Kaye as The Duchess Estonia Dulworth.

Emily has appeared on screen in season two of HBO's Boardwalk Empire. Most recently, she played Mia Bialy in the new Starz Network original drama, Flesh and Bone from Emmy award-winning writer/executive producer Moira Walley-Beckett, and executive producers John Melfi, Lawrence Bender and Kevin Brown. The show takes an inside look at the dark side of a fictional New York Ballet company, drawing upon Emily's ballet skills from her company experience. Flesh and Bone also stars Ben Daniels (House of Cards), Sascha Radetsky (Center Stage), Irina Dvorovenko, Raychel Diane Weiner and Sarah Hay. The eight hour mini-series premiered on STARZ November 8th, 2015 and was nominated for a 2016 Golden Globe award for best mini-series.
