Grainger Hines - Biography

Grainger made his New York stage debut in "Valentine Day", written and directed by one of America's great writers, Horton Foote, also "Mannerhouse", directed by Herbert Berghof. Other productions in New York includes "Fool For Love", "One Last Ride" and "Dance With Me". On the stage in Los Angeles, Grainger starred with Lynn Redgrave in "Thursday's Girls". He also starred in "A Rainbow in the Night" at the Matrix and the world premiere of "One Last Ride" at the Melrose Theatre. At the Lee Strasberg Institute, Grainger starred in "Fool for Love" and at the Odyssey Theatre, "Hedda Gabler." Grainger wrote, produced and starred in the western drama, The Outsider (1994). In 2008, Grainger directed the feature film _The Mill (2008)_ In 2012 -2013 Grainger completed a recurring role of Doc Whitehead on AMC's "Hell on Wheels." Grainger has appeared in over thirty films, most recently, Steven Spielberg's, Lincoln (2012) as Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles. Other films completed in 2013 are "Hot Bath an a Stiff Drink," "Jobs Daughter," "North Blvd.," "Kensho at the Bedfellow," and "Hollywood." In 2014 Grainger will be appearing in a regular role in Steven Soderbergh's Cinemax series, "The Knick" as Captain August Robertson.

Grainger is an avid horseman and polo player. He has two sons, Gray and Austin Hines. Gray is a musician and lives in South Carolina. Austin has his own production company, 1C Films and is producing documentaries. Austin lives in Los Angeles and his mother is actress, Michelle Phillips.
