Ian Chen was born on September 7, 2006 in Los Angeles to Taiwanese immigrant parents. At the age of 5, Ian booked a national commercial to the surprise of his parents. Since then, he continued to display his acting talent by booking commercials, television shows, and print jobs. In March 2014, Ian landed his big break in a comedic role as Evan Huang in ABC's "Fresh Off the Boat." Prior to "Fresh Off the Boat," he also guest starred in a dramatic role on "Grey's Anatomy." He was cited by Variety as a young star to watch, and named to Entertainment Weekly's list of "12 under 12" outstanding youth actors. Ian also loves being on set to learn about all aspects of the filming process.
Ian is also a trained singer. He recently appeared in the Hallmark Channel's "Home and Family" for his first television interview and live singing performance! He was subsequently invited to sing for many charity events and has his own Instagram game called "Guess Ian" where he will sing different styles of songs for people to guess.
In his free time, Ian enjoys playing airplane models with his friends. He likes singing, watching TV, practicing Wushu martial arts, and reading. Ian wants to be an airline pilot when he grows up.
He has a younger brother named Max. Ian also speaks English and Mandarin fluently.
