Khan Baykal was born in Teaneck, New Jersey. His father was Turkish and his mother is Irish. Khan grew up in Union City, New Jersey and graduated from Saint Joseph of the Palisades High School in 1997, where he played basketball, football, and was president of his class senior year. He studied with Suzanne Esper at the William Esper Acting Studio for several years. Just two months after completing his training, he was cast in Merchant Ivory Productions film Heights. A couple of years later, he would go on to sign a talent holding deal with ABC.
