Kimberley Kates - Biography

Kimberley Kates was born in California and grew up in the Pacific Northwest before moving back to California after winning a modeling contest at the age of 19 during college break. She originally was studying to be a Veterinarian when she was discovered by a talent agent, she continued with her education while working as a model and taking acting classes.

Her first movie audition was for Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, originally for the role of Missy. She was then asked to audition for one of the roles of the Princesses where she landed the role as Princess Elizabeth.

Early in her career, Martin Scorsese sought Ms. Kates out for several roles, they became good friends and he mentored her for much of her acting career. Ms. Kates credits Mr. Scorsese for staying in the business as long as she has, not only did he teach her about persistence in this business, but also sent her many of his favorite films to study while she was just beginning her acting, including The Red Shoes, The Searchers, Vertigo, Citizen Kane and Mean Streets.

An avid reader as a child, and a math and science whiz, Ms. Kates thought the last thing she would be doing as a career choice would be in the entertainment business. Although she often performed in church and school plays.

She was raised by artist parents who were always supportive of her passion for the arts and encouraged her to follow her dreams, even if meant foregoing a career as a doctor.

Kimberley went on to study acting and directing with teachers Harry Mastrogeorge, Gene Bua, Academy of Dramatic Arts and with Milton Katselas at the Beverly Hills Playhouse in his Master Class.

She has co-starred and starred in numerous films and television shows. Ms. Kates is now an award-winning producer and runs a publicly traded, production and global distribution company, Big Screen Entertainment Group.

A big supporter of young filmmakers, she has funded many projects for up and coming artists.

She is also a supporter of animal rescue, with a large menagerie of pets of her own.
