Luis Bordonada - Biography

Luis Bordonada was born in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico to Mexican and Puerto Rican parents. He was raised in Parral, Chihuahua by his grandparents until his grandmother passed away when he was 10 years old. After his grandmother's death, Luis was sent to the United States to live with his parents in El Paso, Texas. It is there that Luis developed a love for the art of acting and filmmaking. He began participating in plays at the church his parents attended and in school. Due to conflict between Luis and his parents, he moved away from their home at 16. Knowing he wanted to eventually work in theater and film, he joined the Army to help pay for his college education. Luis enlisted in active duty Army after graduating High School in 1997 and was discharged honorably in 2001, but continued serving with the National Guard until 2003. He started his theatre education at El Paso Community College theater program under the guidance of Prof. Hector Serrano, founder of Viva El Paso and Shakespeare on The Rocks Theater Festival. Luis has since continued reinforcing his education through the University of New Mexico Theater Program. His first break in film came from the Hughes Brothers in their film The Book of Eli in 2010. In the same year Luis was cast as the lead in the award winning independent film, Ilegales (Illegals), for which he earned a Best Actor Award in Chicago's Naperville Independent Film Festival. He continues to work in both film and television. In 2014 he earned a recurring role in season 2 of FX's The Bridge. His work on that show earned him an invitation to work on NBC's first season of State of Affairs (2015). Luis recently finished his first directorial effort with the short, La Botella (The Bottle), which he hopes will be the first of many projects he directs. Luis feels very blessed to have the opportunity to work in the field of his dreams and hopes to succeed enough to provide opportunities for other Latinos to do the same.
