Matthew Penn - Biography

Matthew Penn, son of Arthur Penn ("Bonnie and Clyde") was born and raised in New York City. He has directed or produced over 135 episodes of some of television's most respected series. Mr. Penn began his television career with New York - Police judiciaire (1990). He was the show's Executive Producer for 4 seasons during which he produced 92 episodes. Since then he has directed series for all four major networks as well as most of the cable networks. He received an Emmy nomination for directing Julia Roberts in Law and Order's episode #200.

He is a member of Ensemble Studio Theater, the Actors' Studio and the Director's Guild of America. He has directed extensively for the stage as well. His most recent stage credits are Martin McDonagh's The Beauty Queen of Leenane and Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.
