Megan Sousa - Biography

Megan De Sousa, born Megan Ashley Sousa, is known for her lead role in Zero (2012), which premiered at the American Black Film Festival landing a 2 year broadcast on HBO, HBO GO and Cinemax. Zero, written and directed by Kimberly Townes, is now set to air on Aspire TV in 2015 with a 5 year license for TV, Print and Web.

De Sousa stars in the LGBT short film Only for Forever (2014), written and directed by Nia Phillips. Only for Forever has recently been nominated in the Visions of Cinematic Synergy category at Vision Fest NY 2015 and the Lesbian Shorts: She Loves Me at Inside Out LGBT Film Fest Toronto 2015.

Training

Upon graduating from Tuskegee University, Megan began to study the craft at the Stella Adler Theater in Hollywood studying acting techniques with D'Mitri Boudrine. She later enrolled in an on-camera master class at the Performing Arts Institute studying with Paul Kampf, acting for Film/TV at CBSI with Coach Clay Banks and commercial improv mastery at the Hey, I Saw Your Commercial! Studio with Michael Pointer.

Megan studied short form improv at the LA Connection Comedy Theatre and at The Improv Trick with Bill Chott. In 2013, she began performing stand-up comedy at The World Famous Comedy Store and Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank. Megan now trains at Krater Studios with Jen Krater of New York.

She has worked with award-winning film directors such as Terri Timely, Kimberly Townes, Ryo Rex, Nia Phillips, Hunter Lee Hughes and Carey Williams.

Recent Work

Megan can be seen in the anticipated neo-noir feature film Guys Reading Poems (2014), written and directed by Hunter Lee Hughes, set for a 2015 release. She is also scheduled to film the new drama web series The Secreft Closet (2015), written and directed by Nikki Whalen, playing the role of Frances.

Megan De Sousa is the writer, producer and lead actress in the short film State of Separation (2012). State of Separation, directed by Ryo Rex, made a world premiere at London's Raindance Film Festival and was an official selection at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival in 2012.

Personal Life

Megan De Sousa performs jazz, modern, hip-hop and vogue dance. She recently found a new aspiration in pursuing and honing the art of stand-up comedy. She films her travels to countries like Colombia, England, Germany and Portugal and is a youth mentor for the Young Storyteller's Foundation and the LA All-Stars.

Megan was born in Connecticut and grew up in both Waterbury, CT and Lincoln, Alabama. She grew up writing poetry, playing softball and performing in school plays. She also speaks fluent Portuguese, basic Spanish and has recently added German to her language studies. She is currently based in Los Angeles.
