Rae Johnston - Biography

Rae Johnston is a technology, video game and social media expert appearing regularly on television and radio programs. She has a regular consumer technology segment on Channel Nine's "MORNINGS" and is the former Lifestyle Editor of TechLife magazine. Rae was a finalist in the "Best New Journalist" category in the 2013 Microsoft IT Journalism Awards.

Rae is also an accomplished actor and voice artist, having performed for feature and short films, television series and commercials, theatre and radio.

Rae's film work has been screened at numerous film festivals worldwide, including Cannes, Tropfest, Newtown Flicks, International Horror Film Festival, Flickerfest, Byron Bay Film Festival and Dungog Film Festival. Highlights include "The Chuck In", an all-Indigenous production directed by Jon Bell.

The highlight of her theatre career has been performing Winyanboga Yurringa for the National Play Festival, directed by Leah Purcell.

As a voice artist Rae has worked on Australian Government announcements since 2005, as well as a number of television commercials and radio plays.

Rae began her training at an early age - playing the lead in every primary school play, and in high school being directly involved in the Drama department acting, directing and writing productions. She represented her school in The Shakespeare Youth Festival and was selected to attend enrichment programs for gifted & talented performers held at the University of Western Sydney. Rae also trained at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre in Drama and In-Motion Danceworks in dance.

In adult life Rae studied Theatre Performance and Practices at the Eora Centre for Indigenous & Performing Arts. Rae received the State TAFE Medal for her achievements in this course. She has also trained with Cicely Berry - voice coach for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Rae believes her training on the job has been just as valuable.
