Renata grew up in Garden Grove CA to a family of independent women. In 2000 with an eye towards directing, she committed herself to a four year acting program at the renowned Playhouse West School & Repertory Theatre in Los Angeles under the tutelage of veteran actor Jeff Goldblum, believing that in order to get a great performance a director should understand the actors journey and speak their language.
In 2012 she received her first Best Director nomination for the short film "Abigail" at Action On Film International Film Festival.
