The Independent on Sunday newspaper named him the most influential LGBTI person in the U.K. on its annual Rainbow List, marking the first time a transgender man has been honoured. The paper wrote, "Our judges felt his decision to play the character Kyle in EastEnders (1985) could help trans people - even save lives - and represents a landmark cultural moment."
