Sebastian del Amo - Biography

Sebastian del Amo (Paris, 1971) Mexican by birth but born in France by accident, he also has the Spanish nationality. He graduated from Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica in Mexico City as a Cinematographer. In 2012, he presented at the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) his first feature as Director, "The Fantastic World of Juan Orol". The film obtained several awards, including the Mayahuel for Best First Feature in the FICG,the Mexican Academy Awards (Ariel) for Best Actor, Best Picture and Best Costume Design, the Mexican Press Awards (Diosa de Plata) for Best Cinematography and Best Editing, the Cristal Screen Award (Pantalla de Cristal) for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Suporting Actor, Best Production Design, Best Production Values, Best Audio Design, Best Post Production, the Best Picture Award at the Toluca International Film Festival (FICCHT) and an Honorary Mention for Best First Feature at the Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF). Internationally, the film was nominated for the Tiantan Award at the Beijing International Film Festival in China, won the Best director and Best Actor Awards at the International Film Festival of Calanda, Spain, and the ACE Awards for Best Picture and Best Actor, given by the Association of Variety Reporters of New York. "Cantinflas" is his second feature. The movie became the Best Grossing Foreign Language Movie in the US in 2014, being the 3rd Best Release for a Mexican Movie in History, and the 5th Best Grossing Mexican Movie in the US in History. In Mexico, it became the 7th Best Grossing Movie in History, remaining 2 weeks in the Top of the Box Office. It opened in 20 countries in all of Latin America. Raising more $19 mdd around the world. The movie earned the Platino Award for Best Actor, given by EGEDA-FIPCA; the Canacine Award for Best Actor, given by Canacine; the Best Actor, Best Director Award and the Audience Award at the Lleida Iberoamerican Film Festival; the Best Actor and the Audience Award at the Huelva Latin American Film Festival; and the ACE Awards for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor given by the Association of Variety Reporters of New York. It also was nominated to represent Mexico in the Oscars 2015. "The Art of Living" is going to be his third feature, starring Edward J. Olmos, Oscar Jaenada, Barry Ward, Danny Trejo, Rhea Pearlman, Efren Ramirez and Anamarina Marinca.
