Shannon Baker - Biography

Shannon Baker is Carrier Dene of the Stellat'en First Nation reservation in northern British Columbia. She has an identical twin sister named Shauna. She resides in Los Angeles, California. Her and her twin sister are collectively known as 'The Baker Twins'. As an actor, model, and spokesperson Shannon Baker has been featured on a variety of television shows, films, commercials, workshops and videos.

In the tradition of the Carrier Dene people, an elder from Shannon's reservation put warm beehive into the palms of her hands when she was a baby. This act is meant to nurture strong artistic abilities.

As long as she could remember she was always performing; From singing "I'm a little tea pot" while dancing in front of a wedding reception at the age of three, to competing in classical music competitions at the age of 16. Her love for the arts quickly took hold and evolved.

Shannon's enjoyment for performing took on various forms while growing up. Music has always been a part of her life, whether she was competing, creating or just listening to it. She participated in school choirs, plays and bands. She also learned how to play a variety of instruments such as the saxophone, flute, clarinet, piccolo and most recently the guitar.

Before the start of Shannon's entertainment career she studied Business Management. While going to school she held a variety of management positions such as Project Manager and Research Assistant at Simon Fraser University, this allowed her to finance her own education. Shannon eventually ended up competing in the Miss Universe Canada pageant where she was the winner of the Revlon Award.

Shannon's introduction to modeling occurred while she was shopping and was approached by a modeling scout. Shannon and her sister knew about scams in the modeling industry and did not take the first offer. Soon after these encounters they began managing their own modeling careers. She has been featured in print, editorials, advertisements and several runway shows. To name a few magazines: 'UMM Magazine', 'Vancouver Magazine', 'SAY Magazine', 'Campus Life Magazine', 'String Magazine', 'Red Honey Magazine', 'V List Magazine', 'Canadian Living Magazine', 'RezX Magazine', 'WWS Magazine', 'unfiltered Magazine', and 'Thick Magazine'. She is a national spokespeople for 'SAY Magazine'. The twins have graced various runway shows across the Americas and Asia.

Shannon has guest starred on the Spike television show 'Blue Mountain State' as well as the CW television show 'Smallville' and the sci-fi television movie series 'Tin Man'. She has also worked on feature films 'Battle-B-boy', 'Hopelessly in June', 'Dominant Gene' and 'Sharp as Marbles'. In addition, Shannon has also been a lead in the television show 'Tales of an Urban Indian'. Her acting credits also include, 'An American Night', 'Worth 1000 Words', 'Estelle', 'Dreamcatcher', and 'Family Portraits'.

As the Bakertwins, Shannon and her sister have made celebrity guest appearances on shows such as 'The Tyra Banks Show'. They have also been featured on APTN's 'Venturing Forth', 'First Talk', 'Nation News Prime Time', 'Creative Native', Global Television's 'ET Canada', City TV's 'Fashion File', CTV's 'First Story', Shaw TV's 'Urban Rush'. The Baker Twins are in a few commercials including 'Tim Hortons', 'Discover Card', and the 'Olympics'. The twins have also been cast in music videos for award winning artists such as: 'Kylie Minogue', 'Moka Only', 'Reddnation', 'Joey Stylez' and 'Christian TV'.

Not only is Shannon known as a model but also as an entrepreneur. Shannon Baker was a recipient of the 2009 BC Hydro Business Entrepreneurial Award. She and her sister have their own calendar company, which includes a Native American Women's Calendar' and a Native Men's Calendar.

Shannon Baker is renowned for her hosting, keynote speaking, inspirational speaking, workshop facilitating and above all, acting. Shannon does not lecture to youth; instead she shares her experiences about how she never gave up on her dream of becoming a model and an actor despite growing up on a reservation.
