Sofía Sisniega - Biography

Sofia Sisniega is a Mexican-American actress best known for starring in the Spanish version of the CW's "Gossip Girl", "Gossip Girl Acapulco". The producers were El Mall and Warner Bros., International Television. "Gossip Girl Acapulco" premiered in the U.S. on Univision's Unimas. The show also aired on Golden Premier, on Telehit HD (cable channels in Mexico and Latin America) and on Mexican Channel 5 (Mexican network).

Sofia's film career began when she was 15, when she acted in two movies directed by respected independent director Gabriel Retes: "Mujeres in el Acto" and "Arresto Domiciliario", this last one filmed in Costa Rica. After graduating from the 3 year Stella Adler Studio New York Conservatory, she continued her career in Mexico. Sofia has been in over 15 theater plays, 5 TV series and 14 feature films: "Bacalar", directed by Patricia Arriaga and produced by the Walt Disney Company; "Get the Gringo" starring Mel Gibson; "El Gringo" filmed in Bulgaria and produced by Joel Silver opposite Christian Slater; "The Boy Who Smells Like Fish", a movie shot in Toronto starring Zoe Kravitz, Douglas Smith and Carrie-Anne Moss; "Flight of the Butterflies", an IMAX 3D film; "Sundown" starring Camilla Bell, among others. She also played the lead, opposite to Brian Petsos, in the highly acclaimed Mischa Rozema's Sci-Fi short "Sundays" which had at least three studios vying for it after it went viral a few months ago.

Sofia's first TV appearance was in the recurring role of 'Carmela' in the historical series "Los Minondo" in 2010. In 2011 she had a leading role in "Bienvenida Realidad" produced by Sony Pictures Television. She followed this by playing the recurring role of "Luna" in "Sr. Avila", an HBO series and, in 2013, she played the lead in the CW's Gossip Girl Acapulco.

Theater has always been a part of Sofia's life. She began acting at the age of four in a small theater company in her hometown, Cuernavaca, Mexico, where she was born in 1989. At the age of 7, she was performing in four shows a week with the children's theater group at the Gandhi Bookstore. While growing up she participated in films written and directed by her father, Marcel Sisniega, one of Mexico's most admired independent film directors. At seventeen she entered the Stella Adler Conservatory in New York City. While in New York, as well as in Mexico, Sofia has acted in plays by Shakespeare, Eugene O'Neill, Anton Chekhov, Arthur Miller, Garcia Lorca, Strindberg, Tennessee Williams, Sophocles, Oscar Wilde, and Harold Pinter.

Sofia recently finished filming "Insurgents" the new Juan Antonio de la Riva movie where she plays the lead and "Club de Cuervos", the first Netflix Original Latinamerican Series where she has a recurring role.

She splits her time between Mexico and Los Angeles.
