Sumiko Braun - Biography

Born in Inglewood and raised in Carson, Sumiko Braun is best known as surfer girl Deanna in the sci-fi cult classic Sharknado (SYFY). She recently booked a role on the series Secrets and Lies (ABC) and has previously appeared on Extant (CBS). Sumiko can also be seen in various national commercials for Nike, Samsung, Dodge RAM, Courtyard Marriott, Powerade, etc. Additionally, she produced and acted in the neo-noir thriller This Last Lonely Place, which premiered at the 2014 Newport Beach Film Festival and screened at Cannes.

Stage credits include the West Coast Premiere of "Dirty" (Zephyr Theatre), "Distracted" (Pasadena Playhouse), and "Tales of a Fourth Grade Lesbo" (Pasadena Playhouse, Highways Performance Space). Sumiko has trained at Howard Fine Acting Studio and Beverly Hills Playhouse, and has studied improv with Upright Citizens Brigade. Along with acting and filmmaking, Sumiko is a current graduate student in the UCLA Department of Asian American Studies.
