Tornike Bziava - Biography

In 2016 Tornike is working on his feature film project together with his co-producer, friend Julien Feret - AMA Productions / France. They co-produced short film Wake Man. In 2015 Tornike's had a premier of his new short film Wake-man (Georgia-France) written by himself, which got Golden Prometheus for the best short film on Tbilisi IFF/ Georgia, after that the film was screened in National Competition / Clermont-Ferrand IFF 2016 / France.

2014 Tornike took the mane part in long feature film The Village by Levan Tutberidze. In 2012 took the leading role in Fold In My Blanket by Zaza Rusadze, it was on Berlin Film Festival 2013 - Official Selection Panorama. The year before he took part in long feature Keep Smiling - Official Selection on Venice Film Festival 2011

In 2012 released a short film NEST (20min/35mm) written and directed by himself, produced by Sebastien Aubert / Ad Astra Films. In 2010 was released a short film The April Chill (15min/35mm) written and directed by him. Distributed by Ad Astra Films. A film is about times of Soviet regime, when Soviet military punished peaceful demonstration in Tbilisi, 1989. Film was selected in more than 40 festivals and won 25 prices / The April Chill was awarded in Clermont-Ferrand IFF 2010 with International Jury Special Mention. Nest was awarded on Hong Kong IFF audience award 2012 and Tbilisi IFF 2011 with Jury Special Price. Both films were Georgian-French Co-Productions and they were broadcasted on France 3. On both projects Tornike had script collaboration with his older friend, known Georgian screen writer Dato Chubinishvili.

In 2009 Tornike Bziava worked as an Actor and assistant director on Renny Harlyn's film 5 Days of War, staring Andy Garcia and Val Kilmer.

2008 the leading role in feature film Three Houses, directed by Zaza Urushadze / director of Tangerines (2013)

In 2006-7 Tornike won the Fulbright grant and got full scholarship from the Polish-American Freedom Foundation. He got at Andrzej Wajda's Master School of Film Directing. He developed script for full-length film The Polkadots.

In 2004-5 Tornike took the main part on feature in film Thy Will Be Done (135min) , by Revaz Chkeidze, Georgia's beloved film director awarded with Palm d'Or for short film in Cannes, director of Father of a Soldier (1965). Film was premiered in 2008.

In 2004 he was invited by Phedon Papamichael l as an intern on set of The Weatherman, directed by Gore Verbinski, staring Nicolas Cage and Michael Caine. In 2003-04 Tornike also wrote, directed & produced three experimental features Listen to Chopin (45min), Delirium (52min) and Secret Man (19min) starring Michael Meskhi. His work also includes main parts in short independent films, like in 2004 The Day Went by Hagen Keller Tornike also took part and directed over 15 commercials including short advertising videos for Building Companies.

In 2003 he took part as an actor in two Greek-Georgian theater productions : Heine Muller's Medea Material and Michael Marmarinos' National Anthems, both directed by Michael Marmarinos. The shows were successfully preformed in Athens and Moscow Theatrical Olympics. In 2001 he preformed in theater production Pygmalion at Marjanishvili State Theater role of Alfred Doolittle. And was awarded for year's best actor of theatrical Institute. In 2000 performed Shakespeare Poetry at Vanessa Redgrave's birthday, National Theater, London

Tornike Bziava is a grandson of renowned Georgian Film director Siko Dolidze and son of director Keti Dolidze, an artistic director of International Theater Festival Tbilisi. He took part in several features as an actor in early years.
